Nardos Tesfay

I am currently working towards a DPhil in Education at the University of Oxford. My project uses data from Ethiopia and examines the effects of poverty on children’s developmental and learning outcomes. My supervisors are Dr. Lars-Erik Malmberg and Dr. Maria Evangelou and I have an association with OUCEA. I previously earned an MSc in Educational Research Methodology from Oxford and an MA in Economics from Saskatchewan. Before pursuing the doctorate, I spent six years working as a social policy officer with UNICEF in sub-Saharan Africa, leading research on childhood poverty and advocating for policy reforms to accelerate child poverty reduction. I hope that my work will lead to a better understanding of children’s learning processes in contexts of poverty and risk, and will further contribute to an improvement in the measures and models used to assess and address these challenges in low-income settings.
