Professor Anil Kanjee

Professor Anil Kanjee is a Co-Investigator on AFLA. He is a Research Professor in the School of Education at the Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa.

His research focuses on addressing the challenge of equity and quality in education, paying particular attention to teacher professional development, and the use of assessment and measurement to improve learning and teaching. Previously, he was an Executive Director at the Human Sciences Research Council, where he headed the Centre for Education Quality Improvement and the Research Program on Assessment Technology and Education Evaluation.

He has worked as a consultant to education ministries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East and has served as a technical advisor to a number of national and international organisations including UNESCO, UNICEF and the World Bank. His current projects include: (i) a randomised control trial to determine the impact of an Assessment for Learning professional development programme on learner performance; (ii) the development of a national framework for reporting results from large-scale assessment surveys; and (iii) monitoring and evaluation of teacher policies and practices, conducted in collaboration with UNESCO’s International Task Force on Teachers.
