Thabo Mabogoane

Thabo Mabogoane is the Deputy Director General in the office of The Presidency in South Africa. He serves as the Outcomes Facilitator (Sector Specialist) for Outcome 1: Improved quality of basic education (Basic Education) and Outcome 5: A skilled and capable workforce to support an inclusive growth path (Higher Education), in the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation.
Previously, he worked as a senior statistician and researcher in different research organisations, focusing on monitoring and evaluations of intervention programs in the education sector. His interests are in analysing issues of financing, efficiency and effectiveness of the education system and the supply and demand of teachers using large data sets. He recently co-edited a book: “Creating Effective Schools”(2013), and was a guest co-editor of South African Journal of Childhood Education Vol 5(2) 2015: “Policy research comes of age in South Africa”. He has also taught economics of education for SADC education planners.
