Paul Black

Paul Black is Professor Emeritus of Science Education at King’s College London.  He has made many contributions in curriculum development and in assessment research, leading on two of the Nuffield Foundation’s science curriculum projects. He has served as chair of the International Commission on Physics Education, on advisory groups of the USA National Research Council, and as visiting professor at Stanford University. He was chair in 1988/9 of the government Task Group on Assessment and Testing.

His work on formative assessment with Dylan Wiliam and colleagues at King’s has had widespread impact. More recently he has taken part in research at King’s in to inquiry-based learning in science and in research at Berkeley and Stanford on progression in the learning of science concepts.
