Title: Reading,Writing, and Language as Tools to Support the Acquisition of Science Knowledge and Inquiry Practices

Abstract: In this presentation, Professor Pearson will discuss a decade-long line of inquiry in which he and his colleagues have tried to use reading, writing, and language as tools of learning and inquiry to promote the acquisition of science knowledge and inquiry practices.  He will share the practices and the results of several empirical studies.

Speaker: Professor David Pearson is a faculty member in the Culture, Development, and the Learning Sciences Faculty within the Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Berkeley, where he served as Dean from 2001-2010.
