Primary SATS review after concerns raised Friday, September 23rd, 2016

The Commons Education Select Committee is carrying out a review of the recently reformed SATs tests taken by primary school pupils at the end of Key Stages 1 and 2, following concerns about these examinations. Jo-Anne Baird, the new standing adviser on education, was quoted on Sky News, saying that there were broader questions about the suitability of the primary assessments.

New publication on student perceptions of predictability in exams Tuesday, September 20th, 2016

Jo-Anne Baird, Daniel Caro and Therese Hopfenbeck have authored an article, now published in the journal Irish Educational Studies. The future of international education assessment Monday, September 19th, 2016

Dr Therese N. Hopfenbeck was invited by the Laboratory of International Assessment Studies ESRC seminar to discuss ‘The Futures and Promises of International Education Assessment’ at the Humboldt University in Berlin on 16th September.

Members of OUCEA were pleased to attend the conference and hope to continue the discussions at the PISA Seminar in December.

Daniel Caro research on differential school effectiveness in Peru Monday, September 5th, 2016

Dr. Daniel Caro has secured funding from the World Bank for a longitudinal study about differential school effectiveness in Peru. He will contribute to the preparation of a research report jointly with colleagues from the Ministry of Education in Peru. As part of this project, he will travel to Peru in September 2016 to run a workshop on statistical methods and to plan the report.

Jenny Lenkeit selected as DfE Analytical Associate Wednesday, August 31st, 2016

Dr. Jenny Lenkeit has been selected by the Department for Education to be a member of its Analytical Associate Pool. The DfE regularly commissions small-scale projects to external organisations. The pool of Analytical Associates brings specialist expertise, knowledge and skills into the DfE to supplement and develop its internal analytical capability. The pool comprises over 160 independent academics and researchers who can be commissioned to carry out small-scale data analysis, rapid literature reviews, primary research and peer review.
