About us

The Oxford University Centre for Educational Assessment (OUCEA) was established in October 2007 by a grant from Pearson to the University of Oxford to establish a centre for research and international development work in educational assessment. Associate Professor Therese N. Hopfenbeck was appointed Director from January 2016.

Research undertaken at OUCEA takes a variety of forms:

  • Conferences and seminars to develop research themes
  • Projects on aspects of educational assessment commissioned by governmental and other agencies
  • Students working towards research degrees in assessment

OUCEA’s research associates contribute to its strategy group, advising on future directions for research and supporting the work of OUCEA in a variety of ways, including guidance to its research students.

Effective networking with specialists in educational assessment internationally is integral to the work of OUCEA. It works collaboratively with other researchers and agencies on the challenges confronting education systems in the quest for global qualifications and standards.
